In 1807, former Vice President Aaron Burr is arrested for treason; 1846, the Republic of Texas transfers power to the State of Texas; And in 1942, executive order 9066 was signed by FDR to relocate Japanese Americans to internment camps.

Funny the Way It Is

In response to filtering the improper talk (or not), I said: Working with teenagers keeps my filter strong. But at the same time, they challenge me to be truthful about the world, both how serious and hilarious it can be.

The End of China

On this day in 1912, Emperor Xuantong of the Qing Dynasty (Manchu) abdicates. The same day, the Chinese adopted the Gregorian calendar. I think it went like this: “Okay, the emperor is gone. Break out Marco Polo’s pin-up calendar with the Yuan concubines.”
